T-Mobile’s T-Satellite Service to Launch in July

T-Mobile is officially rolling out its satellite-to-mobile service, T-Satellite, on July 23, in partnership with Starlink, marking a major leap forward in eliminating cellular dead zones across the U.S.

With 657 Starlink direct-to-cell satellites already in orbit, T-Mobile will extend mobile coverage to more than 500,000 square miles of previously unreachable territory, offering SMS, MMS, picture messaging, and short audio clips directly to smartphones with no special devices or apps needed. The beta program, launched in February 2025, has been incredibly successful, with nearly 1.8 million users, including tens of thousands of customers from rival networks Verizon and AT&T.

Later, on October 1, T-Satellite will launch data-based services, enabling select apps like AccuWeather, AllTrails, WhatsApp, and others to work even when users are completely off the grid. T-Mobile is actively inviting developers to optimize their apps for satellite use.

The service will be free for T-Mobile customers on the Experience Beyond plan, and available to others, including AT&T and Verizon subscribers, for $10/month. At launch, T-Satellite will also support 911 texting, with broader emergency support planned for later in the year.

T-Mobile is the first U.S. carrier to commercially offer satellite-to-phone connectivity on a national scale.
