Sateliot and Turkcell Demonstrate Seamless 5G NTN IoT Connectivity in Türkiye
Sateliot and Turkcell have completed a field demonstration of 5G NB-IoT connectivity over satellite, showing how IoT devices can move between terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks without interruption.
The tests, carried out in Barcelona and Istanbul, used Sateliot’s low Earth orbit (LEO) constellation to validate standards-based NTN connectivity integrated with Turkcell’s existing mobile network. Devices were able to remain connected as they moved out of cellular coverage, switching automatically to satellite while maintaining service continuity.
The demonstration focuses on NB-IoT use cases, where consistent, low-power connectivity is often more important than bandwidth. By extending coverage beyond terrestrial networks without requiring new hardware, the approach is aimed at sectors such as agriculture, logistics, energy and emergency services, where assets are frequently located in remote or hard-to-reach areas.
The trial builds on a growing number of operator-led NTN integrations, where satellite is treated as a native extension of the cellular network rather than a separate system. For Turkcell, it opens up the possibility of expanding IoT coverage nationwide without additional ground infrastructure, while Sateliot continues to position its constellation as a standards-based complement to existing mobile networks.
Both companies said they will now explore further deployments following the successful test, with a view to supporting wider IoT adoption as connectivity requirements extend beyond traditional coverage areas.
