OQ Technology Gets Luxembourg Government Concession for Global 5G IoT and D2D
OQ Technology has been granted a government concession from Luxembourg to deploy and operate satellite-based 5G IoT and Direct-to-Device (D2D) networks.
Issued by H.E. Elisabeth Margue, Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister for Media and Connectivity, the concession authorizes OQ Technology to provide global 5G connectivity directly to standard smartphones and NB-IoT devices via satellite without specialized hardware or terrestrial infrastructure.
OQ Technology CEO Omar Qaise called the concession “a major milestone” that empowers the company to deliver reliable, secure, and ubiquitous satellite 5G services worldwide.
Minister Margue highlighted Luxembourg’s role in fostering innovation in space-based telecoms: “Solutions such as those being developed by OQ Technology can improve access to digital services in remote areas and enhance the resilience of our communication infrastructure.”
The concession means that Luxembourg becomes one of the first European countries to authorize 5G NTN and D2D operations, granting OQ Technology rights to operate under its ITU-coordinated frequencies and orbits.
