Intelsat Helps to Bring 4G to the Solomon Islands
Intelsat and Solomon Telekom Company Limited (STCL) are connecting the unconnected by bringing 4G mobile service to more than 50 rural communities across the Solomon Islands using the Horizons 3e satellite.
The expanded partnership includes full network management and 24/7 support from Intelsat, helping STCL deliver reliable mobile broadband and e-services to outer islands where infrastructure is scarce.
“This is about digital inclusion,” said STCL CEO Christina Lasaqa. “With Intelsat, we’re empowering remote communities with access to fast internet, mobile banking, and more.”
Intelsat’s Nigel Stitt added: “For many, a mobile phone is the only gateway to broadband. We’re proud to help transform connectivity in the Pacific.”
STCL reports that voice quality and data speeds are now up to par with urban centers, proving satellite is helping close the digital divide in the remotest areas.
