Airbus Looks to Singapore for First 5G/NTN Trial Outside Europe

Airbus is teaming up with Singapore’s IMDA and OSTIn to develop and trial 5G/6G Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) tech, marking Airbus’ first NTN initiative outside Europe.

Under a new multi-year MoU, the partners will explore hybrid satellite-terrestrial connectivity across key sectors like aviation, maritime, and public safety. The goal: build seamless, resilient networks that bridge space and ground.

"Singapore is an ideal testbed for next-gen communications," said Anand Stanley, President, Airbus Asia-Pacific. The collaboration aims to tap into local R&D, industry know-how, and government support to build a strong NTN ecosystem.

IMDA’s Dr. Ong Chen Hui called the deal a step toward “a hybrid future,” while OSTIn’s Jonathan Hung emphasized space tech’s role in powering Singapore’s global ambitions.
