Globalstar Aims for New Era of Mobile Satellite Connectivity with HIBLEO-XL-1

Globalstar has announced plans to activate its HIBLEO-XL-1 satellite system, paving the way for expanded Mobile Satellite Services (MSS) as it positions for the next phase of growth in the space economy.

The new system will extend Globalstar’s capabilities beyond its current L-, S-, and C-band frequencies, adding new uplink, downlink, and feeder-link spectrum across additional orbital shells. This marks a significant broadening of Globalstar’s operational flexibility, ensuring capacity for new services as demand for satellite connectivity accelerates.

Globalstar has been active in MSS since 2000, investing billions to commercialize mobile satellite services over its licensed Big LEO bands. The company is already building out its $1.5 billion C-3 system, announced in 2024, which will add 48 satellites and around 90 new ground stations worldwide. With higher power downlinks, C-3 is expected to deliver improved performance for both consumer and industrial applications.

With HIBLEO-XL-1, Globalstar is aiming not only to expand spectrum access, but also signaling its intent to remain competitive as LEO constellations diversify and demand for MSS scales worldwide.
