Gilat to Acquire Comtech’s Satellite and Space Communications Business
Gilat Satellite Networks has announced that it has agreed to acquire the majority of Comtech’s Satellite & Space Communications segment for $157.5 million, in a move that significantly expands its defence, satellite infrastructure and space communications capabilities.
The acquisition brings together two long-established satcom vendors and creates a combined organisation with projected annual revenues exceeding $700 million. Gilat said the deal will more than double revenues generated by its defence business while strengthening its position in the rapidly growing market for military, government and mission-critical communications systems.
Comtech’s Satellite & Space Communications unit supplies ground infrastructure for GEO, MEO and LEO satellite networks, alongside troposcatter communications systems, space electronics and engineering services supporting satellite and launch vehicle programmes. Its customer base includes the U.S. Department of Defense, allied military organisations, satellite operators and commercial enterprises.
The acquisition also substantially increases Gilat’s footprint in the United States, expanding both its engineering resources and manufacturing presence at a time when demand for sovereign communications infrastructure and defence-related space technologies continues to rise.
