Eutelsat Lands LEO Connectivity Deal in Angola

Eutelsat has secured a new multi-year, multi-million-dollar agreement with Mercury (formerly MSTelecom), the telecommunications subsidiary of Angola’s state energy group Sonangol, extending a long-running partnership focused on low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite connectivity.

The deal will see Mercury continue expanding access to Eutelsat OneWeb services across Angola, targeting enterprise, government, offshore and telecom customers that require reliable connectivity beyond the reach of terrestrial infrastructure.

The agreement further strengthens Eutelsat’s position in one of Africa’s most strategically important connectivity markets. The company is currently the only licensed LEO satellite operator in Angola and has invested heavily in local infrastructure, including a dedicated ground station and local point of presence, enabling low-latency services across the country and neighbouring regions.

For Angola, where vast geographic distances and remote industrial operations create connectivity challenges, satellite services are becoming an increasingly important component of national communications infrastructure. The offshore energy sector in particular represents a significant opportunity, with operators requiring secure, high-performance links for both operational and corporate communications.
