GCT and Iridium to Develop Satellite-Enabled NB-IoT Chipset

GCT Semiconductor and Iridium Communications have signed an MoU to integrate Iridium NTN Direct℠ into GCT’s GDM7243SL 4G/5G chipset, paving the way for a satellite-enabled NB-IoT solution aligned with 3GPP Release 19.

The partnership will accelerate development of a compact, standards-based NB-IoT chipset that supports non-terrestrial connectivity—key for global 5G Advanced applications like asset tracking, satellite messaging, and remote IoT devices.

“This expands our NTN capabilities and brings us deeper into the satellite IoT market,” said John Schlaefer, CEO of GCT.

“Together, we’ll deliver always-on, global IoT connectivity in a power-efficient form,” added Greg Pelton, CTO of Iridium.
