KSAT Books SpaceX Launch for Hyper - its In-Orbit Relay Network
Norwegian Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT) has signed a launch contract with SpaceX for the first satellites of Hyper, its planned in-orbit data relay network, with launch targeted for late 2027.
Hyper has been designed to extend KSAT’s global ground-station network into space by deploying LEO relay satellites that act as “orbiting ground stations.” The system has been designed to add a dedicated space-based backhaul layer, enabling continuous, low-latency data delivery for Earth observation, space situational awareness, and other time-critical missions.
By reducing dependence on ground station pass availability, Hyper aims to improve latency, resilience, and global coverage, supporting near-real-time operations anywhere on Earth. The launch agreement signals the transition of Hyper from design to deployment, positioning KSAT to offer integrated terrestrial–space networking as demand looks to continue to grow for always-on, low-latency space services.
