TII and Space42 to Build UAE’s First Space-Based Quantum-Secure Network

The UAE’s Technology Innovation Institute (TII) and Space42 are joining forces to build the country’s first space-to-ground quantum communication network, combining satellites and terrestrial infrastructure with Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) at the core.

Under the new agreement, TII will bring its sovereign QKD technology and research expertise, while Space42 contributes its satellite platforms, integration capabilities, and ground infrastructure. Together, they plan to:

  • Design and build a QKD payload for satellites

  • Test and validate quantum-secure links between space and ground

  • Demonstrate in-orbit QKD as a foundation for future commercial services

The goal is to create ultra-secure space-based key exchange for government, critical infrastructure, and strategic communications to strengthen the UAE’s cyber resilience and supporting its ambition to be a global hub for quantum-secure, non-terrestrial networks.

Beyond the tech, the partnership sets up joint steering, shared R&D, and talent development, positioning the UAE at the intersection of satellite, NTN, and quantum security.
