TDC Erhverv Partners with Eutelsat to Integrate Satellite Connectivity into Danish Networks

Danish operator TDC Erhverv has partnered with Eutelsat to integrate OneWeb low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite connectivity into its enterprise and public sector network services, providing an additional communications layer for organisations requiring resilient and secure connectivity.

The agreement will allow Danish businesses and public authorities to access Eutelsat's satellite services alongside TDC Erhverv's existing fibre and mobile network infrastructure. The satellite component is intended primarily as a backup and resilience solution, maintaining communications when terrestrial networks are disrupted, unavailable or unable to reach remote locations.

Initial applications will focus on sectors where connectivity interruptions can have significant operational consequences, including energy, transport, utilities, defence, emergency services and critical infrastructure. By integrating satellite capacity into its managed network offerings, TDC Erhverv aims to provide customers with more diverse connectivity options without requiring them to manage separate satellite service arrangements.

The partnership also reflects growing European interest in communications sovereignty and infrastructure resilience, particularly amid concerns about geopolitical risks, cyber threats and dependence on non-European technology providers. Eutelsat's OneWeb constellation provides a European-operated LEO connectivity option that can complement existing terrestrial networks and support continuity planning for public authorities and essential services.

The companies have said that they will initially being focusing on making existing satellite services available to Danish customers, while exploring additional applications for the local market. The agreement represents another step in the integration of LEO satellite broadband into mainstream enterprise telecommunications services, although TDC Erhverv and Eutelsat have not disclosed specific deployment schedules, customer commitments or commercial terms.
