Taiwan Launches National 6G & Satellite Alliance to Accelerate NTN Innovation
Taiwan’s Taipei Computer Association has announced the launch of the Taiwan Next-Generation Communications Alliance (TNGCA), to focus on the development of 6G, low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, and non-terrestrial networks (NTN).
Backed by more than 50 companies and 30 expert members, the alliance unites telecom operators, electronics manufacturers, satellite players, chipmakers, system integrators, AI firms and startups. Its goal is to strengthen Taiwan’s independent capabilities in next-gen communications while enhancing national resilience amid growing geopolitical and supply-chain pressures.
President Lai Ching-te has repeatedly emphasized that LEO satellites and next-generation communications are essential pillars of Taiwan’s long-term national strategy, particularly in strengthening domestic self-sufficiency and safeguarding critical infrastructure.
The TNGCA directly supports this vision through a coordinated, cross-industry model with a framework connecting Taiwan’s telecom, electronics, and systems-integration sectors.
The alliance’s four priorities for boosting Taiwan’s global competitiveness are:
1. Build domestic capability for “network connectivity even when offline”
Focus on 5G/6G, LEO/MEO/GEO satellites, HALE UAVs, and HAPS platforms. It aims to localize key technologies, expand R&D and testing capacity, and strengthen communications resilience during disasters or network outages.
2. Expand Taiwan’s voice in global standards
TCA will deepen engagement with 3GPP, O-RAN, HAPS Alliance, and GSOA, giving Taiwanese companies a clearer path into global markets and elevating their influence in 6G and NTN standardization.
3. Build a next-generation talent pipeline
Backed by government investments, TNGCA will provide engineers and graduate students with access to testbeds, labs, and real-world R&D environments.
4. Bring Taiwan’s communications technology to the global stage
Through international partnerships, global exhibitions, and cross-border tech collaboration, the alliance aims to accelerate export opportunities for Taiwanese 6G and satellite solutions.
