Skylo and Vodafone Partner for Hybrid Satellite-Cellular NB-IoT Trial
Skylo Technologies has partnered with Vodafone IoT to trial a global hybrid connectivity service that integrates satellite and cellular networks for IoT devices using a single SIM.
Under the agreement, Skylo’s 3GPP-compliant Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) NB-IoT service will be integrated with Vodafone IoT’s core network, allowing devices to automatically switch between terrestrial cellular coverage and satellite connectivity. The companies plan to move from trials to a full commercial service following validation.
Skylo operates a global NTN footprint spanning 36 countries and around 70 million square kilometres, providing an overlay to Vodafone IoT’s existing cellular networks. Customers will continue to manage both cellular and satellite connectivity through Vodafone IoT’s Managed Connectivity Platform.
The partnership targets use cases including asset tracking, energy services, environmental monitoring and fleet management, reflecting growing enterprise demand for resilient, standards-based IoT connectivity beyond terrestrial coverage.
The trial adds to momentum around NB-IoT-based NTN services, positioning satellite as a seamless extension of existing cellular IoT deployments rather than a separate connectivity layer.
