Skylo & Syniverse Bring SMS Over Satellite to Verizon

Skylo and Syniverse have partnered to bring two-way SMS messaging over satellite to Verizon customers, extending beyond emergency services for the first time. By leveraging Syniverse’s Evolved Mobility solution, mobile network operators can now integrate SMS over non-terrestrial networks without changing existing infrastructure or hardware.

Using licensed Mobile Satellite Service spectrum, Skylo will deliver satellite texting without interfering with mobile networks. The service, already available on select Verizon devices, can ensure connectivity in rural, remote, and disaster-stricken areas. The collaboration uses the Diameter Protocol for seamless integration, enabling scalable, reliable satellite messaging through a cloud-based platform.
