MediaTek Showcases 5G NR-NTN Automotive Video Call at MWC

MediaTek has used MWC 2026 to underline its push into satellite-enabled automotive connectivity, demonstrating what it says is the world’s first 5G NR Non-Terrestrial Network (NR-NTN) video call for in-vehicle communications.

The demo highlights how standards-based NR-NTN can extend high-speed connectivity beyond terrestrial coverage, enabling video streaming, app usage and broader internet access via satellite when cars move outside traditional mobile networks. The focus is on delivering seamless hybrid connectivity blending cellular and satellite as vehicles become increasingly connected and software-defined.

The announcement signals MediaTek’s intent to integrate satellite NR-NTN capabilities directly into future vehicle platforms, positioning space-based connectivity as a natural extension of 5G automotive architectures rather than a niche add-on.
