Telenor IoT and Sateliot Partner to Extend NB-IoT Connectivity via Satellite

Telenor IoT and Sateliot have announced a partnership to enable seamless switching between terrestrial and satellite networks for NB-IoT devices.

The collaboration is based on Sateliot’s 3GPP Release 17–compliant LEO constellation, allowing standard NB-IoT devices to connect to satellites without requiring specialised hardware or custom integrations. For IoT deployments, this removes one of the key barriers to satellite adoption, where proprietary solutions have traditionally added cost and complexity.

The aim is to provide continuous coverage for devices operating beyond terrestrial networks, with satellite acting as an extension rather than a replacement. This is particularly relevant for sectors such as agriculture, maritime, logistics and energy, where assets often move in and out of coverage.

Field tests in Spain have already shown that Telenor IoT SIMs can maintain stable connections over the satellite network, with further trials planned in additional markets.

The partnership reflects a broader push toward standards-based NTN IoT, where connectivity can be delivered using the same devices and SIMs across both terrestrial and satellite networks.
