AST SpaceMobile Backs US Operator JV to Expand Satellite Coverage
AST SpaceMobile has welcomed plans by AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon to form a joint venture aimed at extending mobile coverage using satellite-based direct-to-device technologies.
The company said the proposed collaboration could accelerate integration between terrestrial and satellite networks, improve coverage and help reduce so-called dead zones across the US. The JV is expected to pool resources and create a more unified approach to deploying satellite connectivity at scale.
AST SpaceMobile is positioning itself as a potential enabler within this ecosystem, pointing to its LEO-based network designed to deliver broadband connectivity directly to standard smartphones. The company has already demonstrated data speeds approaching 100 Mbps from space, with next-generation satellites expected to increase performance further.
Its system is built around the use of mobile operator spectrum, combined with its own licensed bands, allowing tighter integration with existing cellular networks without requiring specialised user equipment.
The endorsement reflects how satellite connectivity is becoming a shared priority across the US mobile industry and, with operators moving toward more coordinated approaches, companies like AST SpaceMobile aim to play a key role in delivering the infrastructure it will be built upon.
