Angola Opens ANGOSAT-2 to Operators

Angola has formally launched the Conecta Angola, opening access to its ANGOSAT-2 satellite capacity for private operators, ISPs, and startups as part of a broader push to expand nationwide connectivity, with particular focus on remote and underserved regions.

Led by the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication (MINTTICS), the initiative allows for local and international entrepreneurs to resell satellite-based connectivity services, lowering technical and commercial barriers to entry. A new hub at the Satellite Control and Mission Center in Funda, linked to the Conecta Angola Comercial portal, provides a one-stop platform to request equipment, services, and satellite bandwidth.

The move strengthens Angola’s use of GEO satellite infrastructure as a core access layer alongside terrestrial networks, and ANGOSAT-2 is being positioned as both a commercial wholesale platform and a universal service enabler, supporting last-mile connectivity where mobile and fiber networks remain uneconomical or unavailable.

The commercial rollout complements the ongoing social version of Conecta Angola, which continues to deliver free satellite connectivity to schools, hospitals, and public institutions in isolated areas.
