Algeria Breaks Ground on $7.7m Space Communications Centre

Algeria has begun construction of a USD 7.7 million Space Communications Centre designed to strengthen the resilience and operational continuity of Algérie Télécom Satellite’s national satcom infrastructure. The new facility, located at Bogzol in Al-Madiyah Province, will support operations of ALCOMSAT-1 and prepare for the upcoming ALCOMSAT-2 mission.

Positioned beside the Algerian Space Agency, the 30,000 m² site was chosen for its low seismic risk, dense fibre connectivity, and direct highway access, forming part of an emerging national cluster of space infrastructure. The centre will provide enhanced control, monitoring, and service management capabilities for Algeria’s sovereign satellite systems, improving network robustness as demand for digital and strategic communications grows.
