AccelerComm Supports Eclipse Space's 5G NTN Architecture for Sovereign Satellite Constellations
AccelerComm has completed two engineering projects with Eclipse Space, helping the emerging satellite infrastructure company develop the physical-layer architecture for its planned sovereign satellite constellations supporting both direct-to-device (D2D) and broadband services.
The collaboration focused on defining key elements of Eclipse's next-generation spacecraft, including a digital beamforming architecture capable of delivering D2D and broadband connectivity from a common satellite platform. AccelerComm also provided its flight-proven 5G non-terrestrial network (NTN) physical-layer technology, including waveform optimisation and error correction, to underpin Eclipse's modem design.
The companies said the work will support standards-based NB-NTN and 5G NR-NTN services while reducing technical risk ahead of Eclipse's planned demonstration mission in 2027. Establishing the physical-layer architecture early is intended to accelerate development and help lower the cost of future satellite deployments.
Founded by former Starlink engineers, Eclipse Space is developing turnkey satellite constellations that governments and enterprises can own and operate to meet national security, communications and digital sovereignty requirements. The project reflects growing demand for sovereign satellite infrastructure built around open 3GPP standards, as countries seek greater control over critical communications networks.
