TTP Joins MSSA to Support Next-Generation Satellite-Terrestrial Networks

TTP plc has announced that it has joined the Mobile Satellite Services Association (MSSA), aligning itself with an industry initiative focused on accelerating the development of standards-based non-terrestrial networks (NTN), including direct-to-device (D2D) and satellite IoT services.

The move reflects TTP's growing focus on 5G NTN technologies, following its recent work on software-defined, multi-band satellite modem architectures designed to support evolving standards and future interoperability. Through MSSA, the company will contribute expertise spanning satellite, cellular and defence communications as the industry moves from trials towards commercial deployment.

MSSA was established in 2024 to promote the integration of terrestrial and satellite networks using 3GPP standards, with members working to develop scalable connectivity for consumer, enterprise, government and safety-critical applications across land, sea and air.

As operators increasingly seek flexible satellite terminals capable of supporting future 5G NTN deployments, TTP said participation in the association will allow it to help shape interoperable technologies that can evolve alongside changing standards, spectrum strategies and deployment models. The company's focus is on developing modem architectures that can bridge existing satellite systems while providing a clear upgrade path towards fully standards-based satellite-terrestrial connectivity.
