Tenerife Satellite Teleport Construction to Begin in 2026

Arquimea and the Cabildo de Tenerife have confirmed that construction will begin in 2026 on a new satellite communications teleport at the island’s Technological Institute and Renewable Energies (ITER), with operations expected to start in 2028. The facility will be managed by CanarySat Teleport Services and will serve as the command, control, and operations hub for Arquimea’s upcoming LEO constellation, as well as third-party satellites.

Designed to underpin a sovereign, resilient non-terrestrial network (NTN) capability for the Canary Islands, the teleport will support mission management, broadband connectivity, and space-based monitoring services. The site will also integrate with Canalink, reinforcing Tenerife’s role as a regional telecoms and space infrastructure hub.

The project will roll out in two stages, with teleport construction between 2026–2028, followed by the deployment of an independent satellite broadband network, enabling global, secure services that combine terrestrial and space assets.

CanarySat’s General Director Antonio Abad said the initiative positions the archipelago as a future hub for secure, sovereign NTN communications, responding to rising global demand for multi-orbit, resilient connectivity.
