Telia Towers Begins Work on Finnish Satellite Ground Station

Telia Towers has begun construction of a satellite Earth station in Pyhäjärvi, Finland, working with an unnamed US space company to connect satellites in orbit with terrestrial data networks.

The project will create a northern ground infrastructure point for satellite communications, supporting the transfer of data from orbit into terrestrial networks. Telia Towers said the site reflects the growing importance of ground stations within global space and telecoms infrastructure.

The facility will include a small number of enclosed antennas and a technical equipment cabinet. Telia said the construction footprint will be compact, with no tall masts, towers or other highly visible structures planned for the area.

Once operational, the ground station is expected to run mainly unmanned, with only occasional maintenance and inspection visits. Construction will involve standard earthworks, installation and commissioning activity, although no completion date has been disclosed.
