ST Engineering iDirect to Supply Ground System for MBSat's Omani Sovereign Satellite Network
ST Engineering iDirect has partnered with Mohammed Al Barwani Satellite Company (MBSat) to provide the ground segment infrastructure for a new sovereign satellite communications network in Oman, supporting a planned commercial service launch in 2027.
The agreement centres on ST Engineering iDirect's Intuition software-defined ground system, which will provide the gateway, network management and service delivery capabilities needed to operate MBSat's satellite connectivity services. The platform is designed to support dynamic capacity allocation, automated service provisioning and integration with existing operational systems.
The deployment will include Ka-band gateway infrastructure, network management software, open API integration and lifecycle support, allowing MBSat to manage satellite resources and expand services as customer demand develops. Intuition's software-defined architecture is intended to reduce dependence on fixed hardware configurations and provide greater flexibility when introducing new services or adapting network capacity.
The network will use capacity from MB Sat-1, MBSat's planned sovereign MicroGEO satellite, to deliver connectivity services across Oman and the wider Middle East. The project is intended to give MBSat greater control over its satellite communications infrastructure, including network operations, service provisioning and future expansion.
