ST Engineering iDirect and Black Cat Systems Launch Satcom Lab for ADF

ST Engineering iDirect and Australia’s Black Cat Systems have expanded their long-standing partnership to create an Advanced Satcom Technology Demonstration Lab, showcasing next-generation, multi-orbit military satellite communications for the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

At the center of the lab is iDirect’s new 450 Software Defined Modem (450SDM), a compact, multi-waveform, multi-orbit satcom modem supporting HEO, GEO, MEO, and LEO networks on a single platform. Designed for mission-critical operations, the 450SDM integrates high-rate mobility, TRANSEC and FIPS 140-3 Level 3 security, and CSIR™ interference mitigation, all while reducing size, weight and power by 30%.

Black Cat Systems has procured additional Evolution Defense hubs and 9-Series modems, and will use the lab to demonstrate secure, resilient satcom capabilities purpose-built for ADF requirements. Paired with the Evolution Defense 4.6 platform, the system enables crypto-agile, interference-resilient, and highly mobile connectivity across diverse operational environments.
