SES Moves into D2D with Elveo Mobile Investment and Partnership
SES has expanded its strategic investment in Elveo Mobile, the (brand) newly formed result of the merger between Lynk Global and Omnispace. This gives SES a direct position in the rapidly growing direct-to-device (D2D) market.
The partnership goes beyond a financial investment, and SES has said it will provide Elveo with access to its global space and ground infrastructure and support the company across engineering, operations, regulatory activities and go-to-market execution. The companies will also cooperate on global spectrum initiatives, an especially important element of scaling D2D services internationally.
For SES, the arrangement adds a LEO D2D layer to its existing GEO and MEO capabilities. SES intends to combine Elveo's LEO network with its own satellite infrastructure to offer integrated multi-orbit D2D services to mobile operators, enterprises and government customers globally.
The partnership was announced immediately following the completion of the Lynk–Omnispace merger which created Elveo, suggesting SES intends to play an active strategic role in the combined company rather than remain simply a legacy investor.
Elveo brings several important assets to the relationship: multi-band spectrum rights, D2D technology developed by Lynk and Omnispace, relationships with 50+ MNOs and distribution partners across more than 60 countries, and a planned network optimized for 5G/NTN connectivity to ordinary phones, IoT devices and machines.
