Sateliot and Constanta Partner to Bring Satellite IoT Connectivity to Brazilian Utilities
Sateliot has partnered with Brazilian IoT provider Grupo Constanta to introduce standards-based low Earth orbit satellite connectivity to critical infrastructure and utility applications across Brazil, beginning with the energy sector.
The companies plan to conduct an initial demonstration later in 2026, which they say will represent the first use of LEO satellite IoT connectivity within Brazil's energy distribution infrastructure. The partnership is subsequently expected to expand into applications including smart grids, public lighting, energy efficiency, sanitation and agriculture.
The deployment will use Sateliot's 3GPP-standard 5G NB-IoT NTN network, allowing compatible Constanta devices to switch between terrestrial cellular networks and satellite connectivity depending on availability. Because the satellite service is based on the same standards used for terrestrial NB-IoT, Constanta is working to enable existing devices through certification and configuration rather than developing separate proprietary satellite hardware.
The approach is particularly relevant in Brazil, where critical infrastructure is spread across large areas with limited terrestrial cellular coverage. Satellite-connected IoT devices could allow utilities to remotely monitor assets such as transmission infrastructure, substations, pipelines and metering equipment, enabling earlier fault detection and reducing the need for physical inspections.
