Radisys and AccelerComm Unify NB-IoT and Broadband Over 5G-NTN
Radisys and AccelerComm have expanded their long-running collaboration to deliver an integrated 5G non-terrestrial network (NTN) solution that combines NB-IoT NTN with existing NR-NTN capabilities enabling satellite operators to support both massive IoT and broadband services on the same platform.
The update allows satellite network operators to deliver low-power NB-IoT connectivity using spectrum already allocated for 5G NR-NTN broadband services. The pre-integrated software supports both transparent and regenerative payload architectures and can be deployed across LEO, GEO and high-altitude platform systems (HAPS).
From a market perspective, the move is significant because it brings narrowband IoT and high-throughput broadband together within a unified 3GPP-compliant framework. NB-IoT NTN is particularly suited to power-efficient, large-scale IoT applications such as infrastructure monitoring, maritime tracking, logistics and emergency communications, all areas where satellite reach is essential.
The solution aligns with 3GPP Release 18 NB-IoT and Release 19 NR-NTN standards, and includes features such as mobility support, service link switchover and enhanced power-saving mechanisms like eDRX.
By integrating AccelerComm’s physical layer technology with Radisys’ RAN software, the companies aim to help satellite operators maximise spectral and power efficiency, a critical requirement in space-based networks, while expanding service portfolios to cover both massive IoT and broadband connectivity.
