Orange and Eutelsat Open LEO Gateway in Martinique for Coverage Across the Caribbean
Orange and Eutelsat have inaugurated a new OneWeb LEO satellite gateway in Martinique, to establish a Caribbean ground segment hub designed to enhance regional coverage, resilience, and sovereignty. The teleport, located in Lamentin and built/operated by Orange for Eutelsat, houses 14 LEO antennas and provides low-latency connectivity to hard-to-reach islands and maritime zones across the region.
With the gateway operational, Eutelsat says OneWeb coverage across the entire Caribbean is complete, closing the remaining service gap over the Atlantic and improving connectivity reliability along busy transatlantic shipping routes.
Integrated into Orange’s wider terrestrial and subsea network architecture including the Kanawa, Southern Caribbean Fiber and Eastern Caribbean Fiber System cables, the site creates a hybrid, resilient infrastructure suited for governments, enterprises, maritime operators, and island communities facing geographic isolation and rising digital demands.
Orange and Eutelsat highlighted the environmental and community-aligned approach, including coexistence with agricultural zones and a local mangrove restoration initiative.
