O2 Extends its Starlink D2D Service to UK Business Customers

O2 has launched O2 Satellite for Business, extending its Starlink-powered direct-to-device satellite service to enterprise customers in the UK.

The service is designed to improve connectivity for organisations operating beyond terrestrial mobile coverage, particularly in rural areas, remote worksites and outdoor environments. O2 said the launch expands its geographic landmass coverage from 89% to 95% across the UK.

O2 Satellite for Business supports selected light-data applications including messaging, maps, weather and location sharing through apps such as WhatsApp, Messenger, Google Maps, Apple Maps, BBC Weather and AllTrails. The service works on compatible smartphones and does not require additional satellite hardware or separate apps.

The business launch follows the consumer rollout of O2 Satellite earlier this year, which made Virgin Media O2 the first UK operator to offer a commercial D2D service through Starlink. Device support has since expanded from Samsung Galaxy models to include iPhones and Google Pixel handsets.

O2 is offering the service at no extra cost on its Ultimate Business mobile plans, while customers on other eligible plans can add it for £2.50 per month on a rolling basis. The business pricing underlines how operators are positioning D2D as a practical coverage add-on rather than a major standalone revenue stream.

The company also highlighted public safety use cases, citing its deployment of satellite-enabled phones for Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service during a recent wildfire in an area without traditional mobile coverage. The devices allowed crews to stay in contact, share updates and access information on the ground.
