Kratos to Develop 5G NTN Ground System for SKY Perfect JSAT

Kratos has been selected by SKY Perfect JSAT as a strategic partner to develop and validate a 5G non-terrestrial network (NTN) ground system, supporting the operator’s broader “Universal NTN” ambitions in Asia-Pacific.

The collaboration focuses on building a software-defined ground infrastructure using Kratos’ OpenSpace platform, marking a shift away from traditional hardware-based satellite systems toward more flexible, cloud-like architectures aligned with 3GPP standards.

At this stage, the work centres on early validation and interoperability, laying the groundwork for integrating satellite networks more tightly with terrestrial 5G systems. The goal is to enable seamless roaming, broader coverage and new service models as NTN becomes part of mainstream mobile connectivity.

Kratos’ software-based approach allows satellite operators to virtualise key network functions, support multi-vendor environments and scale more easily as demand grows. It also enables faster experimentation and lower-risk deployment of new NTN capabilities, including 5G New Radio (NR) services delivered via satellite.
