Iridium and SKYWAVE Partner for Global Industrial IoT Connectivity

Iridium Communications has announced that it has partnered with SKYWAVE to deliver enhanced satellite connectivity for heavy equipment manufacturers, combining Iridium's global low Earth orbit (LEO) network with SKYWAVE's multi-network IoT platform.

Under the agreement, Iridium's Short Burst Data (SBD) service will be integrated into SKYWAVE's satellite IoT terminals, enabling equipment manufacturers to extend connectivity across satellite, cellular and Wi-Fi networks through a single platform. The solution is designed to support connected services for assets operating in remote locations where terrestrial coverage is limited or unavailable.

The partnership will target applications including remote monitoring, diagnostics, predictive maintenance and fleet management, while also helping manufacturers modernise legacy connected equipment deployments. Although initially focused on the heavy equipment sector, the companies said the platform could be extended to other industrial markets requiring resilient global connectivity.
