Filtronic Joins Viasat & ESA to Power D2D Sats
UK-based mmWave specialist Filtronic is bringing its high-power mmWave tech to Viasat’s Direct-to-Device (D2D) satellite project, supported by the European Space Agency (ESA), with the goal of delivering seamless 5G connectivity from space directly to smartphones with no extra hardware needed.
Filtronic’s cutting-edge D2D technology brings satellite-to-smartphone connectivity one step closer
As part of ESA’s ARTES 4.0 programme, Filtronic is developing advanced feeder link technology to support high-speed data flow between Earth and satellites in low Earth orbit. Their RF expertise is key to building the high-capacity backbone of this future-ready, non-terrestrial network.
Backed by the UK Space Agency, this collaboration puts Filtronic at the heart of Europe’s space-tech push, helping to shape the next generation of global connectivity.
As Filtronic CEO Nat Edington puts it, “We’re not just connecting devices, we’re connecting the future.”
