Anritsu and Samsung Claim World-First PTCRB Certification for 5G NR NTN RF Testing

Anritsu says it has passed the world’s first PCS Type Certification Review Board (PTCRB) certification for selected 5G NR Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) RF conformance test cases, working in collaboration with Samsung and its NR NTN modem chipset. The milestone marks a step toward commercial certification and large-scale deployment of 5G satellite-connected devices.

From an NTN perspective, the news signals that NR NTN has moved from specification to formal device certification readiness. PTCRB’s inclusion of NR NTN test cases effectively opens the door for handset, module, and IoT vendors to certify devices capable of connecting directly to satellites across LEO, MEO, and GEO orbits using standardized 3GPP 5G NR protocols.

The certification was achieved using Anritsu’s ME7873NR 5G RF Conformance Test System, which already supports 3GPP Release 17, the release that formally introduced NR NTN. This validation confirms that satellite-enabled 5G devices can now be tested and certified under the same global frameworks used for terrestrial cellular equipment.
