Airbus Defence and Space and Alvatross Launch Unified Satcom Services Platform

Airbus Defence and Space and Alvatross have developed SatCom Hub, a vendor-agnostic BSS/OSS platform designed to simplify the procurement and management of satellite and terrestrial connectivity for government and military customers.

The platform aggregates services from multiple sources through a single interface, including Airbus satellite services, third-party satcom capacity, terrestrial connectivity, terminals, value-added services and intelligent routing. It is intended to manage the complete service lifecycle, from ordering and provisioning through SLA management, usage monitoring, operations and billing.

SatCom Hub combines Airbus Defence and Space technology with the Alvatross Digital Platform, including its customer engagement, service catalogue, order, inventory and assurance modules. The underlying architecture is modular and cloud-native and uses TM Forum standards, allowing services from different operators and technologies to be integrated without requiring customers to manage each network independently.

For Airbus, the platform provides an orchestration and commercial layer through which military and government customers can consume multi-vendor, multi-network connectivity as a unified service. Airbus also plans to incorporate SatCom Hub into its broader technical offering for international programmes.

The development reflects a wider shift in satellite communications towards software-defined aggregation and automated multi-network orchestration. As government connectivity increasingly spans GEO, MEO, LEO and terrestrial infrastructure, platforms capable of abstracting individual networks behind common ordering, assurance and SLA mechanisms are becoming an important part of the ground segment. SatCom Hub positions Airbus and Alvatross to address that integration layer rather than requiring customers to operate satellite and terrestrial services as separate systems.
