AccelerComm Expands 5G NTN Patent Portfolio
AccelerComm has announced its 56th international patent, marking a decade of development in 5G physical layer technology and reinforcing its position in the rapidly evolving non-terrestrial network (NTN) ecosystem.
The milestone reflects the company’s focus on channel coding and hardware acceleration techniques aligned with 3GPP New Radio standards, spanning technologies such as polar and LDPC coding, demodulation and channel estimation.
AccelerComm’s technology targets one of the most critical challenges in NTN: delivering high-performance signal processing within the strict size, weight and power (SWaP) constraints of space-based systems. Its hardware-accelerated approach is designed to significantly improve throughput and efficiency compared to software-only implementations, a key requirement as satellite networks scale toward broadband and multi-service capabilities.
The company is also actively contributing to next-generation architectures, including its role in Airbus UpNext’s SpaceRAN programme, which explores regenerative satellites capable of hosting full 5G base station functionality in orbit rather than acting purely as relay nodes.
