4iG and SpaceX Sign European Starlink Mobile Deals

Hungarian 4iG Group has signed agreements with SpaceX to introduce Starlink Mobile services in Europe and develop secure sovereign satellite communications capabilities.

The agreements cover commercial satellite-to-mobile connectivity through Starlink Mobile, alongside a separate Sovereign Solutions arrangement focused on protected satellite communications for national security use cases. 4iG described the partnership as the first of its kind in Europe.

Starlink Mobile will initially be used to complement 4iG Group’s terrestrial mobile networks in Hungary and the Western Balkans, extending connectivity into areas where conventional coverage is limited or unavailable. The first commercial services are expected in Hungary and Albania, with rollout timing dependent on regulatory, technical and commercial conditions.

The service connects directly to LTE-compatible mobile phones without requiring dedicated satellite equipment, making it suitable for remote communities, mountainous regions, coastal waters, emergency situations and temporary outages affecting terrestrial infrastructure.

The partnership is also expected to expand to Starlink Mobile V2, SpaceX’s next-generation direct-to-device platform using its global 2GHz spectrum rights. V2 is intended to support 5G non-terrestrial network capabilities and enable higher-speed broadband connectivity directly to mobile phones. Future launches are expected to include Hungary, Albania, Montenegro and North Macedonia.

The Sovereign Solutions agreement will see 4iG’s space and defence business work with SpaceX on secure satellite communications infrastructure, including augmented satellite connectivity and end-to-end secured data communications. The service is scheduled to launch next year and is designed to support national-level secure network requirements.
